Sci-Bono hosts many educational and exciting events throughout the year. Here are the current special events we have to offer. Click on the following links for more information.

Electronics Club

Electronics Club aims at introducing Grade 10 & 11 learners to electronics in which they are taught how to construct simple electronic circuits. The session’s takes place every alternate Thursday after school at the Sci-Bono Discovery centre and comprises of various projects some of which include the Continuity Test LED, Light sensitive alarm and a traffic light project.

Rocketry Course

The Rocketry Course, presented by AeroSpace Research (ASR) involves the training of teams in the basics of rocketry. It is aimed at Grade 11 learners and provides a structured syllabus that includes both theory and practical sessions.
The course is intended to give each learner an understanding of the fundamentals of Rocketry and applied MST. This includes learning the history, applications, physics, chemistry, economics and mathematics of rocketry in which they will also design, construct and launch a rocket.

Dates : 01-05 July 2013 (1st Course)

08-12 July 2013 (2nd Course)

23-27 September 2013 (3rd Course)

09-13 December 2013 (4th Course)

Apprentice Doctor

The Apprentice Doctor is a lecture about the theory and practice of basic techniques in medical examinations. The programme targets high school learners interested in medical science careers. It includes hands-on activities on medical examinations. Learners learn and practice various diagnostic techniques. The learners get the opportunity of using real medical instruments during the programme. They learn the techniques that medical professionals such as doctors use to make an accurate diagnosis on their patients.

Girl Learner Programme

Girl Learner is a programme that targets grade 8 – 12 girl learners who have interests in Science, engineering and Technology careers. The girl learners are taken out to spend a day at factories, construction sites, governmental departments, hospitals, and many other companies around South Africa. The visit to these companies, give them the opportunity to understand the world of work and start making good career decisions. This journey allows them to experience what different science experts are doing on daily basis.

Mental Maths Challenge

The Mental Maths Challenge is an exciting competition for grade 3 learners. The programme helps learners to improve their skills in mental arithmetic. The programme is divided into four levels namely; school level, cluster level, district level, and provincial level.

Corporate Team Building

The corporate team building that Sci-Bono offers targets organizations that needs team building exercises outside of their own spheres. It uses the already established centre exhibitions such as Me Games, Science of Soccer, etc. The concepts covered include strategy, team work, and communication amongst the others. The main focus is to bring out the best in a team to ensure self development, positive communication, leadership skills and the ability to work together as a team.

External Exhibitions and Expos

Sci-Bono Discovery Centre exhibits at a number of public and science expos. Are you unable to visit the science centre? Then, lookout for us at science expos around the country such as the SASOL TechnoX in Sasolburg and the annual Grahamstown SciFest in Grahamstown. We also visit the BABA Indaba kids festival and the RandShow amongst others. You may be able to catch us performing one of our Science shows and get engaged and hands-on with some of our exciting science workshops and exhibits.
